At school, the University started a drama school and with one free credit, Alice took a dramatic acting class. She decided that she wanted to act and so she next attended The Central School of Speech and Drama in London.
Alice made her professional acting debut on British Television in 1979 and appeared in the Television movie A Tale of Two Cities (1980). She went on to roles such as Sybil in Chariots of Fire (1981) and Eva in Ghost Story (1981). She has played Bathsheba in King David (1985) and Mary in Haunted Summer (1988).
She has appeared on stage in plays such as the production of Thomas Otway's Venice Preserved. Alice has appeared in what she calls "Tons of TV" in both the U.S. and U.K. This includes made for Television movies from Baja Oklahoma (1988) and Ladykiller (1992), to mini series from Ellis Island (1984) and Scarlet & Black (1993). In the eighth Star Trek movie, Star Trek: First Contact (1996), she plays the Borg Queen who is on a mission to assimilate Earth into the Borg collective.
She chose not to reprise her portrayal on Star Trek: Voyager. Actress Susanna Thompson played the Borg Queen a few times on Voyager, but she was not available during the filming of the show's final episode, so Alice resumed the role for the finale.
